Lifting of COVID-19 restrictions on Friday 5th June 2020

Airport to reopen on July 1, No quarantine or COVID-19 tests for tourists arriving from 19 safe countries

  • Bars, gyms, childcare centres to reopen
  • Religious services to resume from mid-June
  • All workers expected to return to work
  • Masks still required in shops
  • No mass gatherings allowed, but six-person limit removed
  • No contact sports for now

Airport to reopen for services to 19 countries on July 1.  The 19 MTA-approved 'safe' countries::

Closure of Maltese Airspace

The Authorities have announced the closure of the Maltese airspace as from the 20th March 2020 23:59.

From Saturday 21st March 2020, Malta International Airport will be operational to facilitate the arrival and departure of cargo, humanitarian, and repatriation flights.

Repatriation Flights TO Malta

The Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs is organising repatriation flights for:

  • Maltese Passport holders currently outside Malta.
  • Maltese Residence Permit holders currently outside Malta.

IMPORTANT: Proof of residency (residence card) is a prerequisite to qualify for repatriation.

Repatriation of Maltese in the UK

Maltese citizens / holders of a Maltese residence permit who are in the UK and wish to leave are requested to do so immediately while commercial flights are still in operation.
